Philadelphia – Members of COBBS Creek Foundation joined the elected officials, educators, and supporters to celebrate the launch of the revitalization of the foundation from the historic Cobbs Creek Golf course, a project that will invest at least $ 100 million to restore courses and change property into a golf campus and dynamic education.
Laying the first stone marks the beginning of construction for the Cobbs Creek campus. The initial phase of the development will include building reservoirs and pominhouses, TGR learning laboratories and driving buildings.
Revitalized campuses, Cobbs Creek Creek Foundation will include:
- 18 hole championship course
- 9-hole courses
- 2-tier driving range
- Short course design tgr
- Restaurant and clubhouse
- TGR Learning Lab
“We are very happy to start the first phase of what will be a monumental and attractive project for the community and region,” said Jeff Shanhan, President and CEO of COBBS Creek Foundation. “By inhaling a new life to this historic landmark, and returning it to a friendly and inclusive space when it opened more than a century ago, this will be a place to be enjoyed by Philadelphians for the future generation.”
CBBS Creek Foundation members joined members of the community, educators, and local officials including Mayor Jim Kenney, President and Chief Executive Officer from the Philadelphia Visitor Center Corporation – and former Commissioner of Park and Recreation – Kathryn Ott Lovell, Member of the Jones Curtis Council, JR., Senator Vincent Hughes and Hughes.
“One century ago, the Cobbs Creek golf course was one of the best public courses in the country, welcoming players from all backgrounds, ethnicities and skills levels,” said Mayor Philadelphia Jim Kenney. “Today we embrace the history when investing in the future. This project will return the high -rise public golf course to a place as a community of community, and thus lifting one of the great sports of our city and creating jobs here at Cobbs Creek.”
Laying the first stone also marks the start of construction in the TGR Learning Lab in Cobbs Creek, a modern education center that will be operated by the TGR Foundation. TGR Learning Lab will be the first building that can be operated on campus and will give local youth access to science, technology, engineering and mathematics education (STEM) as well as the Higher Education Access and Career Readiness Program.
Lab TGR Learning 30,000 square feet will provide opportunities for local students to learn, grow, and realize their potential. Programs that focus on academic enrichment and mathematics tutoring, reading and writing subjects will be provided for students in grades 1-4 in local elementary schools while students in grades 5-12 receive school days, after school and summer programming on the spot. Students at TGR Learning Lab will have access to project -based interactive classes that help them find their passions, get skills that can be transferred and prepare them for their careers in harmony with their interests. These classes are designed to expose students in a career that suits STEM and so on with subjects such as robotics, cyberspace security, artificial intelligence, design and more.
In addition, the TGR design will build a short course to provide opportunities for community members to practice and learn games. TGR Learning Lab will provide golf programming to young people, build skills and provide career exposure in golf while developing core values.

The TGR Learning Laboratory construction is expected to begin in the fall 2023. COBBS Creek Upper Restoration, Short Course, Driving Range and New Maintenance Facilities are expected to be completed in 2025, with Lower Cobbs Creek Restoration, Clubhouse, Karakung Course and Golf Course which was completed in 2026.
