If you’ve noticed new apartments popping up in your neighborhood, chances are you’re living in one of Charlotte’s top zip codes for apartment construction. To pinpoint exactly where the apartment building boom is happening, Rent Cafe just released a report of the Fastest Growing Apartment Zip Codes in America after analyzing thousands of zip codes around the country.
The Charlotte metro has two hotspots for apartment construction in the top 50 list for new units built in a mere five-year span – both of them located in the Queen City. Zip code 28262 takes the lead, building more than entire cities like Cary or Asheville. Hot on its heels is 28202, where the surge in new units is reshaping the skyline of Uptown Charlotte.
Here’s more info on Charlotte’s elite zip codes for apartment construction:
- Charlotte’s 28262 is the 27th hottest in the nation. It added 3,526 new apartments in just five years, which translates into a 34% supply growth. Most of these newly built units are in the high-end category.
- Also among the nation’s top 50 (46th), 28202 saw 2,837 new apartments over the past five years, changing the face of Uptown Charlotte. Notably, most of the new apartments here (59%) are in top locations.
- While some neighborhoods in Charlotte may not top the list in terms of new apartment numbers, they are seeing tremendous changes because their original stock was smaller. For example, zip code 28206 more than doubled its supply of apartments in just five years (127% growth).
- Nationwide, Washington, D.C., dominates the top five with two zip codes — 20002 and 20003 — at #1 and #2, respectively. Meanwhile, the Dallas metro area has the highest number of zip codes (8) among the top 50. Charlotte is the only NC metro that made the list of hottest zip codes for apartment construction.
