Fans stopped by Cox’s statue outside Truist Park on Saturday to pay their respects.
SMYRNA, Ga. — For hours Saturday, Atlanta Braves fans stopped by the Bobby Cox statue outside Truist Park, many taking photos, some even leaving flowers. Fans paid tribute after hearing the Hall of Fame manager died at the age of 84.
Even though the Braves were out of town on Saturday, the area was still packed with fans heading to the Savannah Bananas game.
Cox provided years of dominance, including the 1995 World Series Championship.
“He’s a winner. He’s a winner. He changed the mentality of Atlanta Braves baseball. I really believe that,” Braves fan Jim Nessmith said.
On the day of his passing, fans like the Buchanan brothers, bearing flowers and letters, came to express their thanks.
“He shaped everything into what it is today,” Braves fan Mary Claire Buchanan said.
Although fans say they love the success he brought to the team, their favorite memories of Cox aren’t his wins.
“I love that he will fight for his team, if he doesn’t like something he will stand up for his teammates, and he’s been sent off so many times, I don’t know what his number is,” Nessmith said.
Cox was ejected 162 times during the regular season and postseason, an MLB record.
“He speaks for his teammates. You know, he argues with the umpires when he needs to argue, and, you know, he’s there to represent the Braves, and basically represent us,” Braves fan Tristan Wiehe said. “He was the one at the time, and it’s sad that he’s gone.”
Fans felt a sense of loss as the Cox era also marked a period in their lives.
“He’s like an icon of the ’90s and my childhood,” Braves fan Justin Gottlieb said.
For Gottlieb, it was a childhood filled with Braves games on TBS, the “superstation” founded by another Atlanta legend and former Braves Owner Ted Turner, who died three days ago.
“I like to joke and think that now that Ted is in heaven, he needs a team and he needs a new captain, so maybe Bobby is there now,” Gottlieb said.
In their message on social media, the Atlanta Braves said while Cox’s love for baseball was unmatched, it was only surpassed by his love for his family. He is survived by his wife Pam, children and grandchildren.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
