The Japanese volleyball association held a press conference in Tokyo yesterday (5). A total of 27 players from the men’s volleyball team were present. Head coach Laurent Tillie issued the team slogan this year “Going towards courage”. The next national league, including Yuki Ishikawa and Lan Takahashi, will only join the competition from Chiba Station on Sunday 3.
Ishikawa and Takahashi did not attend a press conference. Conversely, Akihi Nishida, who previously announced that he would not participate in the Japanese men’s volleyball competition this year, appeared at that place. In his speech, he said that his aim was to make up for past regret at the Los Angeles Olympics and would try to increase his personal power. Responding to changes in the Japanese men’s volleyball team after entering the new system, he also stressed that he would do his best to make the team stronger.
Nishida, 25, has been chosen for the Japanese team since the age of 18. He has served as the main force for a long time and has contributed many extraordinary achievements in international competition. In an interview with the media after the meeting, he reiterated that this year’s international season would be the time to rest and adjust. Nishida revealed that in reality, she had temporarily out of the game last October from the Paris Olympiad qualification championship (OQT). The reason is that intensive schedule makes it difficult to focus on the most important event for him, so he decided to leave the national team for training and personal adjustments.

He admitted that leaving the national team made him a little nervous and understood that there was a risk in doing it, but what he needed the most now was rest and change. He said that if he could not be chosen for the national team next year or face other situations, he would accept it calmly because he believed that such challenges would encourage further growth.
Nishida stressed that she was always brave enough to take risks, which was the way to survive in the face of competition. Just like now, even though he was hesitant, he chose to rest. Nishida smiled and said that even though she was uncomfortable, if she was really unable to return to the national team next year, maybe she could only accept it while smiling. However, after the rest, he will work hard and try to wear the national war robe again.
Speaking of his career in the future, Nishida said that he would be 28 years old at the Los Angeles Olympics and gradually entered the final stage of his career. He hopes to play until he is around 34 to 36 years old, and as we get older, he will increasingly realize the limitations of his career. In addition, he also mentioned that before the Los Angeles Olympiad, it was an important stage for the Japanese team to change generations. In order not to be replaced, he will continue to do accidentally and continue the career of his national players.
