When we celebrated Women’s Golf Day, Witham shared more golf trips and sports impacts.
Who inspired you to start and continue your journey with golf?
Growing up from my parents playing. My mother grew up playing with her parents, and she finally introduced and taught my father to play when they were dating. It was always an activity that my parents did together, and when my brother and I were born, they joined a golf course a few years later. Golf became something I initially did with my father; However, my mother is the biggest catalyst in guarding me in the game. He runs the junior golf program on our golf course, so even if my brothers and sisters and I want to stop, we have no choice because we have to go to the mother’s place.
I grew up watching Annika Sorenstam and Julie Inkster and liked everything they did for the game. I also like the fact that each of them has a family and is a mother who is dedicated to being a big supporter for women’s games.
What are the most valuable skills or lessons you get through the game?
Golf has taught me a lot of different life lessons: setting goals, perseverance, honesty and respect, for some names. All of these are lessons that are instilled in me through golf and really become part of whom I am. Golf is where I was taught how you act when you play before I was told or shown how to swing the club. There is a certain level of respect taught by golf games at a young age.
What tips will you give to girls or women who want to start playing?
- Take lessons. Women sometimes have their partners or friends teach them the game. Create commitment and list for actual lessons when you start the game. The key is to get a basic understanding of fundamentals.
- Learn the term. Like many sports golfs have their own language. Take time to polish how you score goals, words used, what that means, etc. Before heading to the field, the more basis you have about how the game works better.
- Find friends. Find friends to enjoy the game. Golf is more fun when you play with friends, and even better if someone who is near the same level of skills as you. I have a friend who grows up that we are very competitive with each other but like to play with each other. Our friendship is a big factor in both of us remain with the game when all other girls drop golf and do tennis or cheers. Find friends and learn to like games with friends.
What are your favorite golf memories?
Playing golf at College of William and Mary and became a member of the team and captain for four years so far the biggest spotlight in my career. Being part of the team and playing with many people who are now a lifetime friend is the best lecture experience that I can ask.
What are you the most proud of your golf career?
My biggest achievement outside of tertiary institutions is to win the club six times at our local club. This last year I won my sixth championship, 18 years after the last. To win again as a wife, and the mother of two small children is a great personal achievement and one that I am very proud of.

Do you think that more women should be involved in sports?
Because it’s fun. Golf is a game that you can play for a long time and with anyone. Whatever the stages of your life, golf is a game that you can play and compete, if you want. This is a good way to spend time outdoors, connected with new people and challenge yourself to learn and improve.Golf is much cooler than when I was a child learning, and I just hoped that with that you came younger children exposed to him. No need to be the game that you dedicate to your life, but just like teen football, I hope golf one Day became a game played by most people at several points in their youth.
What are the suggestions you will give to girls or women who are interested in playing golf?
Do it. Why not? Golf is not a game that should intimidate anyone. There is no “late.” This is an extraordinary way to meet friends, connect with colleagues, do exercises and set goals for yourself. My goal in golf is always to never refuse invitations and never be afraid to play with someone based on the status of my game or my thoughts may not be good enough.
In what golf careers do you want to see more women?
I hope there are more professional teachers in the game. I am lucky enough to grow in a course where the main teaching professional is a woman. There are many jobs in the golf industry that are underestimated. It would also be fun to see women becoming more involved in agronomic designs and golf courses. More women everywhere!
What do you like the most in the next five years golf?
I am most happy with my two young people studying this game. I grew up in a family where all our vacation, including at least some time of the family on a golf course and that is something that I hope can be built with my family in the coming years. This is a good way to stay connected as a family and activities that you can enjoy together.

I hope LPGA continues to grow and more college tournaments are displayed on TV.
