TGR Foundation has announced the appointment of HRAG M. Hamalian as the new president, TGR Learning Labs and National Programs. Hrag is a dynamic leader in education who will oversee the TGR Foundation education program and the team that is responsible for providing programming to students from communities that lack national resources.

Hrag brought nearly two decades of experience in K-12, higher education and social innovation to the TGR Foundation executive team. Before joining the TGR Foundation, Hrag served as CEO of Bright Star Schools. In this role he strategically grows Bright Star schools from four to nine schools and created community-based school models that provide transition kindergartens to 12th grade education, plus six years of higher education and labor support, for nearly 4,000 students in Los Angeles. Hrag previously founded the Valor Academy Middle School, a public school in grade 5 to 8 in Los Angeles. In 2013, Hrag helped lead the strategic combination of Valor and Bright Star, the first combination between two successful charter organizations in Los Angeles. In addition, Hamalian has established, established and suggested technology solutions and new companies that created greater access to education.
Hrag immigrated with his family from the Middle East at a young age and has a deep respect and gratitude for education and its impact on his life and career. After attending a public school in New Jersey as an English student, he graduated from Boston College where he became a double major in biology and respecting English. He later obtained a master’s degree in secondary education from Loyola Marymount University and Master in business administration of the University of California, Los Angeles. In 2011, Hrag was respected by Boston College as a decade alumnus through a prestigious gold award.
“I am proud to be named President, TGR and National Program Learning Laboratory and I am eager to guide the organization to actualize the mission of empowering students to pursue their desires through education,” Hamalian said. “This is an important time for us to expand our reach and serve more students in the community that lack resources through the expansion of our TGR learning laboratory and our national education program. HRAG will be based on the National Headquarters of the TGR Foundation in Irvine, CA, while leading the teaching staff and its program nationally. In its role, Hrag will oversee the leading TGR Learning Laboratory in Anaheim, CA and TGR Learning Laboratory in Lulu’s Place in Los Angeles and at Cobbs Creek in Philadelphia. He will also have a responsibility for the foundation’s national education program, including the Earl Woods Scholar program and the professional development of educators.
